"Alcohol is not our friend, especially as we get older," she warns, noting that it can exacerbate menopausal symptoms. Instead, she suggests finding other ways to relax and unwind that don't involve alcohol.

Exercise is another crucial aspect of maintaining health during midlife. Bezzant stresses the importance of regular physical activity, particularly strength training. "Doing some weight training, ideally quite heavy weights if you can, or building up to quite heavy weights, has so many benefits," she says. These benefits include improved body composition, bone health, heart health, and cognitive function. Regular exercise can also reduce the risk of dementia, which is a significant concern for aging women.
